Another glorious sunny, if a little chilly, week here in the North West. I’ve been out every day taking out those pesky sycamore seedlings and it’s lovely to have even 15 minutes out in the sunshine.
Here are my six – some new plants, some updates on last week’s offerings.
This was my first photo last week and they’ve fully opened during the week. I love this tulip – it’s absolutely gorgeous. I’ve also done some digging through my photos and found out that this variety is Belicia and these are bulbs I’ve had for four or five years and they’re still coming back strong.
More tulips (because, well that’s mostly what my garden has right now!) – this is Purple Rain, another variety I’ve had for several years. The depth of colour in these flowers is so intense and it’s a variety I will always grow.
The cherry blossoms are looking amazing. Tree is about 10% in flower right now. The tree is so sturdy and imposing most of the year but the fleeting nature of the blossoms makes me feel a little sorry for it. It puts so much effort into this display and one strong wind can decimate it (and usually does at this time of year).
These lupins are one of my favourite things in the garden. We started off with one plant in 2020, that didn’t flower and now we have these four displays that flower over and over again every year. They will need dividing again later this year.
I turned my back for 2 minutes and the hostas went from shoots in the ground to this. I need to take photos every day or I’m going to miss their transformation. I love the way the leaves are curled in on themselves, slowly opening up day by day.
Despite us cutting the hedge that the bluebells live under they are now on their way to flowering. We did it carefully but there’s always a little damage to them because of how close to the hedge they are but they seem to have mostly survived.
I had a brainwave and covered them up with those trays that the supermarket bring your deliveries in (we had a few in the garden that were left by drivers over the years that I use for moving pots round en masse).
These are Spanish Bluebells (I know, I know but they are wonderful and haven’t spread that much in the years we’ve lived here).

The worst job in the garden in my opinion! All winter clearing up the helicopters and all spring pulling up the ones you missed!

Wow, that first Tulip IS really special. I didn’t know it was a Tulip on first glance. Gorgeous! And Cherry blossoms…yay! Happy Six!
