Very quick Six from me this week. We’re currently sitting charging our EV then heading back home to close all the windows and curtains. Predicted to be 30 degrees here later!!
Our Six On Saturday host is Jim and his blog is here.
I took some photos first thing this morning before the garden becomes uninhabitable for me.
I didn’t realise this dahlia had survived the winter outdoors! I’ve had a couple of flowers already and plenty of buds. The gladioli is the dahlia’s pot companion. Glorious yellow flowers. Just one spire so far. This nasturtium is poking itself out of the corner of a still covered raised bed. They always find a way! Second appearance this year for my borage. I couldn’t resist snapping this hard working little guy first thing this morning. I have a whole planter of this Japanese anemone – it’s a little late flowering this year I think so I’m hoping for more flowers in the next few weeks. Some of my hydrangeas are in full flower. A couple are a little behind. I love this pale pink one. It never gets any darker than this and will fade towards the end of summer.
I have an overcrowded potful of a similar gladiolus and 2 + 2 have just clicked into place and I’m wondering whether it might replace my infested Agapanthus. It wouldn’t look out of place with Dahlias and Eucomis for company.
Oh, nice…you’re lucky the Dahlias and Gladiolas survive the winter in your climate. We are too cold, so I have to dig them up and replant. All the blooms are beautiful! Stay cool, and I hope you’ll get some needed rain soon!
Couldn’t agree more about borage. I’s a really nice thing to have. Mine have been flowering for weeks now from an early sowing. There used to be a bank about 30′ long opposite the Manchester University Botanical Gardens, covered in borage, which was quite spectacular. I’ll have to take a trip to see if it’s still thriving.
Mine are completely self seeded – I took the plants up last year not sure what we were planning with the raised bed this year. The borage has decided for me and I’m so happy!
Gorgeous gladioli, I love its colours.

What a beautiful gladiolus, and in good condition too given the weather we have been having.

I don’t have the best colour mix but the flower shapes definitely look great together. The contrast in the leaf shape is interesting.
